In fact, a corner of a room or closet often works better for most work at home parents who need to keep an eye on kids or for parents with teens who want to keep an eye on their computer time.

If you want to make a closet into a home office, simply take off the doors and remove the closet bar. Then you can choose a simple desk to place in the closet with a comfortable chair.
You can include shelving and organizational space on the back walls of the closet for any storage options that you may need. Hang a long curtain over the front of the closet if you want it hidden from view at certain points in time. This is a very inexpensive way to build a home office that doesn't require a lot of space.
Adding Shelving and a Desk to Any Room
For some people a home office may be as simple as a built-in bookcase or storage area or a computer armoire. This is a very inexpensive home office that can be added to just about any room from the dining room to the kitchen, to any bedroom.
If you do have a separate room for your office, you can still build a budget-friendly space. Simple things like painting the room your favorite color or a mellow color like light green or blue can make all the difference in the room.
To decorate the walls, simply add photographs in frames. The photos could be of nature scenes that you took or of your family if you wish. Add some shelves or shadow boxes on the walls for storage that can double as decorative items as well.
Some of the books that you may need for your business can act as decorations if they are nice looking. Things like decorative boxes and trinkets can be filled with office supplies, and you would never know that they are functional as well as stylish.
If you are just starting out your business and you don't have that much money to spend right away on your home office, then build it up slowly. You may just want to start out with a desk and chair in the room. Then when you have the money, you can wait till you find deals or sales on decorative and storage items that you can use for the room. There's no need to go into debt to try to make the best home office before your business is even making money.
